In 1972, David Bowie created his glam rock alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust. The subsequent(and now iconic) album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, was an epic, rock opera-style concept album about an alien rock star sent to Earth to prevent an impending calamity.
